Year of The Cooperative: Buffalo

Why the Buffalo?

- Buffalo (bison) are herd animals and enjoy living together in mixed-age groups, like coopers (coopers is the casual term for "people who live in co-ops").
- Buffalo are migratory -- like our team of intrepid filmmakers who will be traveling around the US to bring the story of cooperative living to audiences.
- Buffalo are trailblazers. Their historical routes, worn by thousands of hooves over centuries, were used as trails by Native Americans, explorers, pioneers, and even railways. Coopers are modern-day pioneers, creating and refining new models of living and doing business for others to follow.
- Bison, especially white bison, are powerful sacred symbols to many Native American tribes. The appearance of a white bison signals a crossroads time for humanity, an opportunity to choose a respectful, unified, eco-conscious path which will restore harmony and balance to the world. Cooperative living and businesses are inspired by these same principles of respect, unity, sharing, and living lightly on the land.
